The government will be analysing a report on the process the Malta Environment and Planning Authority should adopt to consider applications for filming in sensitive zones.

The report, by Kevin Aquilina and Simone Borg, was presented to Environment Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco this morning.

Dr Aquilina and Dr Borg were commissioned to examine the process being followed in the granting of permits for the shooting of films following the Dwejra incident.

Dwejra was in the news recently after the bay was used for the filming of “The Game of Thrones”. Potentially damaging heavy machinery was brought in to clean up sand dispersed for shooting scenes by the production company’s subcontractors.

Dr Aquilina and Dr Borg were requested to propose changes to strengthen the process so that the country’s historical and natural heritage would be safeguarded.

The government will be publishing the report in the coming days.
