A man who has a history of driving without a licence and insurance was today jailed for six years and fined €17,800. Four cars were also confiscated and he was banned for driving for four years.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquele said that the court had noted how the accused had persistently broken the law, despite various orders by different courts.

Ryan Briffa, 22 of Qormi, was convicted in four separate cases today, all presided by Magistrate Depasquale.

In the first case, he admitted to having driven without a licence and insurance cover and relapsing on four occasions in 2010. For those cases he was jailed for two years and fined €6,900. The car was confiscated.

He was also convicted of driving without a seatbelt in Paola on October 18, 2011, driving without licence and insurance and breaking the conditions of a previous sentence. He was jailed for one year and fined €2,000.

In the third case Briffa was convicted of having driven without a licence and insurance three times using a third car in February and March 2011.He was jailed for two years and fined €6,900. His driving licence was suspended for a year and the car was confiscated.

In the last case, Briffa was jailed for another two years and fined €6,900 for driving without a licence in Marsa and Balzan.
