Renzo Piano and several other architects “who built Valletta” will be the star attraction of this year’s carnival as a float has been especially dedicated to them.

Valletta 2018 foundation chairman Jason Micallef said the float was a special treat for Carnival fans to mark the capital's 450-year history.

This year’s carnival will begin on Thursday and run for five days with a grand finale on Tuesday February 9.

Carnival director Jason Busuttil said there were more than 40 participants in this year’s festivities with a number of different floats and dancers taking part. This year's floats, he said, would be “a cut above” previous years’.

Mr Busuttil said Malta was also being represented in the international carnival symposium in Italy next week.
