The word "love" is commonly found in almost all songs written in various languages around the world. When only put on paper, it has no meaning unless practised in real life. In his letters, St Paul describes love as patient, unselfish and kind, does not seek its own interests, and is not boastful. It is easy to be an angel when nobody ruffles your feathers.

Truly this kind of love is shown and felt at the Renal Unit at Mater Dei Hospital, which I frequent as a patient. This kind of love is manifest among all the staff who deserve all praise. Under their gentle care and sense of duty I, being a nun, feel edified. I see in each of them a sense of responsibility, working conscientiously and helping all patients alike. Being among them one feels relaxed and safe. Nursing is not only a profession but also a vocation which these carers fulfil with selflessness, love and dedication. If only we all lived in love and peace and avoided hatred, misery and conflicts, what a better world it would be!
