Malta, like the rest of the British Commonwealth, marked Remembrance Sunday today, paying tribute to the fallen servicemen and civilians of the wars.

Archbishop Charles J Scicluna lead pontifical Mass at St John's Co-Cathedral.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca  lead the congregation, with the Speaker, MPs from both sides of the House, and members of the diplomatic corps.

The President inspected a Guard of Honour on St John Square before the Mass.

In the UK, Armistice Day was marked yesterday.

As Big Ben struck 11 o'clock in London, people at The Cenotaph - the capital's war memorial - fell silent for two minutes, an act repeated up and down the country.

Held at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Armistice Day initially marked the end of World War One in 1918.

It has since grown in scope, and commemorates all those who have died in conflict, not only in Britain.
