Studying Rembrandt is the title of an exhibition of studies of Rembrandt by Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci that the History of Art Programme of the Faculty of Arts at the university in Msida is mounting as part of its activities to mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of the Dutch artist Rembrandt Harmenz van Rijn.

The exhibition on the first floor of the University Library will be inaugurated today following a commemorative lecture by the Rembrandt scholar Gary Schwartz for which the public is invited. The lecture, organised in collaboration with Heritage Malta, starts at 3 p.m.

Dr Schembri Bonaci lectures in the History of Art Programme. He studied art at the Moscow Grabar Institute of Art and Icon Art under A.N. Ovchinnikov who impressed on his students the importance of "studying and copying masters, studying and copying ad infinitum..."

For Dr Schembri Bonaci the process is an unending, life-long process and is still alive within his daily discipline.
