A resident of Marsa with an eye on history has filed a judicial protest calling on Mepa, Transport Malta and the Transport Ministry to halt road works near Spencer Garden, Blata l-Bajda until the site is thoroughly investigated for historical remains.

Francis Debono in his protest noted that works in Spencer Garden as part of the re-routing of a section of December 13 Road had unearthed remains which needed to be properly excavated, studied and preserved.

He said that preliminary studies in February revealed human remains and, possibly, the foundations of a mosque going back to the time of the time of the Arab conquest of Malta. It had later resulted that some of the remains may also go back to Roman times.

Mr Debono insisted that all works on this section of the project should cease until all the remains were studied, documented and preserved.
