The process has started to reinstate newly-appointed Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit into the public service and the police force, according to the Home Affairs Ministry.Almost a fortnight after his appointment, Mr Zammit has still to retake the oath of office as a policeman. He will be officially recalled to the public service and promoted to Police Commissioner, a ministry spokesman explained.

Mr Zammit, a legal procurator, retired from the police force in 2009 after 25 years of service.

He succeeds John Rizzo, who now heads the Civil Protection Department.
