Registrations for the ‘Blue Skies Scheme’ of low-priced internet access will open on Saturday January 26 from stalls on Merchants’ Street, the Ministry for Investment, Industry and Information technology (MIIIT) said.

The ministry will be subsidising broadband internet in Maltese households which currently do not have internet. The service will cost €3 (Lm1.29) per month. Families, having members with disabilities will get the service for free.

To qualify for the scheme, the applicant must reside in a household where no broadband service is installed or was operating after December 1, 2007. Households which are currently served with a dial-up connection may still apply. Each household may only benefit from one Broadband service.

Registrations will be between 9:00am and 1:00pm. In Gozo, registrations will be received on the next day at the Ministry for Gozo at St. Francis Square Victoria Gozo.

Applicants need to present their ID card in order to register.

The ministry said the total number of registrations that can be accepted is limited and applications will be treated on a first come first served basis.

More information about this scheme is available on telephone.
