Blueskies registrations from families without broadband internet at home will be received at the registration fairs in Merchants Street, Valletta, tomorrow from 9 a.m. and at the Gozo Ministry on Sunday, the IT Ministry said.

Blueskies is an initiative through which families that do not yet have broadband internet are being given the opportunity to get this subsidised for a year, paying only €3 a month.

The ministry said that the number of applicants in the initiative may very well exceed the initial target of 5,000 although applications have not started being accepted as yet.

Should more than 5,000 applications be received, as was likely, the government would, if necessary, adjust its budgetary provision to ensure that all families without broadband at home and registering for the scheme would benefit from it.

The ministry said that non-profit organisations without a broadband account in their registered offices were equally eligible to the scheme.

Households that include a person with disability would have the entire cost of their first year of broadband covered by the subsidy.

The ministry thanked HSBC and Bank of Valletta for their support of the scheme and for taking part in the registration fairs with more special offers for new participants in the broadband universe.

Meanwhile, BOV said it is waiving the subscription fee for the first year to Blueskies subscribers who apply for BOV internet banking. Normal fees will apply upon renewal. The offer is applicable to new BOV internet banking subscribers and will be made available through BOV branches upon presentation of the Blueskies voucher sent by the government to eligible subscribers.

Further information can be obtained from the BOV stands on Saturday.

Telecoms company Go said it has teamed up with the strategic partners of the Blueskies scheme and will be stepping up its marketing campaign to reach out to those families that still do not have broadband internet at home.

Go said that when choosing Go Plus broadband as their internet provider, customers will benefit from the fastest broadband speed in the market, with download speeds of 2Mbps and upload speeds of 512kbps, a download limit of 12GB, four e-mail accounts and 100MB storage.

Go is also offering anti virus free for three months to new broadband customers .

From February 4 to March 7 Go Plus outlets in Valletta, Birkirkara, Balzan and Gozo will be open from 8.30 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
