From tomorrow, you will once again be able to turn on your TV without hearing blaring vuvuzelas and football commentaries. As the World Cup reaches its climax today, Patrick Cooke toured Valletta to ask if the football sated people's appetite for the game.

Victor Muscat, Birkirkara, lives Ontario, Canada
The World Cup hasn't lived up to expectations. There were a lot of teams that turned in disappointing performances, the refereeing wasn't great, there were too many yellow cards and too much acting.

I also dislike the vuvuzelas, and I think they affected some of the players' concentration. I would rather see the tournament played out like 25-30 years ago, when a player could barge with the shoulder and play tough like the English.

I was disappointed because I thought England would perform better than they did, and I was also disappointed with Germany in their semi-final match. I think Spain are the best team, but I don't know if they will win the final because I don't know what the (the 'psychic') octopus has predicted. Germany's Thomas Mueller has been one of the best players in the tournament and Germany missed him in the last game.

Luke Azzopardi, Fgura
The World Cup has been memorable; the final says it all because either Spain or the Netherlands will win it for the first time.

It has been exciting, some teams did not meet expectations but others exceeded them.

I was supporting Italy so I'm not very happy with their performance. I would now bet on Spain because in the last game they dominated the Germans and I was expecting Germany to win.

Victor Azzopardi, Marsa
All the games were exciting to watch, but there weren't enough good referees. My favourite team, England, were knocked out because they were not given a legitimate goal. Now I hear Fifa is going to change the refereeing system, which I'm happy about. I think the Netherlands will win the final, since they play better football. Spain have only been winning their games by a solitary goal.

Janie Bezzina, Żebbuġ
The World Cup has been very good. I've seen all the games; even if I was working I made sure I watched them on TV because I love the World Cup. I was supporting Argentina but since they got knocked I support Spain. I think Spain can win it now; they have David Villa, who I love.

Joseph Cassar, Valletta
I wish my team Italy had done better but that's how it is. Both teams that made it to the final are very good, but I have a feeling Holland will win. The Italians were unlucky this year; we have won many times so this time we had a rest.

Tony Gatt, Valletta
The World Cup wasn't special this year. Germany were disappointing in their semi-final against Spain because they had looked like quite a good team up to that point. But Spain and the Netherlands are good teams so we should have a good final. Holland haven't lost for 24 matches so they are slight favourites in the final, but in football you never know.

Maria Pisani, Siġġiewi
The World Cup was a great spectacle. I was surprised that the English, French and Italians struggled, but teams such as Germany, Spain and the Netherlands have kept us entertained and I'm looking forward to the final. It looks like South Africa was a very good host, which I'm happy about because some people doubted they could cope before the tournament started.

The best performer? That would probably be Paul the psychic octopus! I will be backing whoever he predicts to win the final! (Spain)
