HSBC Group chairman Stephen Green started an official three-day visit to Malta yesterday afternoon by paying a courtesy visit on Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Finance Minister Tonio Fenech.

This was followed by a meeting with President George Abela at the Palace in Valletta, where Mr Green presented his book Good Value - Reflections On Money, Morality And An Uncertain World.

Following the book presentation, a concert by tenor Joseph Calleja and soprano Maria Abela, accompanied on the piano by Michael Laus, was held in honour of Mr and Mrs Green and their distinguished guests.

Mr Green has been group chairman of HSBC Holdings plc since 2006, following three years as the group's CEO. He has worked with HSBC since 1982 and has been an ordained priest in the Church of England since 1988.

Chairman of the British Bankers' Association, he is also chair of the Prime Minister's Business Council for Britain and a trustee of the British Museum.
