Forecasts suggest this will be another record year for tourism, thanks to the number of arrivals during the shoulder and winter months, according to the Malta Hotel and Restaurants Association.

MHRA president Tony Zahra said that the association consistently advocated the importance of organising events throughout the whole year.

The festival hosted by UK DJ Annie Mac over the Easter holidays demonstrated that such events generate a positive boost in entertainment, hospitality and catering during the quiet shoulder months.

The association called on the authorities to pursue the strategy to further incentivise the organisation of similar culture and entertainment events and others related to sports and culture.

It is important to improve on the management of overall logistics to ensure better security, less disruption in the neighbourhood of such events and a quality approach to ensure sustainable tourism growth, the association said, referring to complaints by St Paul’s Bay residents during the festival that the noise was “unbearable”.
