Record producer Linda Perry has apologised for tweeting that Lady Gaga does not deserve a songwriting credit for the Oscar-nominated song Til It Happens To You.

Perry had tweeted on Monday that Gaga only performed the song from the college campus sexual-assault documentary The Hunting Ground, which is credited to Diane Warren and Gaga.

Perry originally claimed that she had Warren's original demo and the final version changes only one line. But she later said she "wasn't in the room" when the song was being written and was wrong to comment.

Warren had disputed the songwriting allegation and said Til It Happens To You is "a special collaboration" between her and Gaga. A publicist for Gaga has not commented.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences regulations state only the principal songwriters of a song can be nominated.
