Highchairs and children’s toys are being recalled by international company Fisher-Price over safety concerns, the Malta Standards Authority said.

Although no injuries have been reported in Malta, the company is insisting on the voluntary recall after seven children in the US required stitches after injuring themselves with their highchairs from the Healthy Care range. They fell over pegs on the rear legs of the chair used to store the tray.

A tricycle, called the Kawasaki Ninja Tough Trike, is also being recalled as children can get hurt if they hit the plastic ignition key.

A range of toys featuring inflatable balls are also deemed dangerous as the valve can come off causing a choking hazard.

The MSA said the items were being removed from the market. Fisher-Prices’ local agent, Tradeways Ltd, is asking customers who bought any of these items to contact them.

A Tradeways spokesman confirmed it had not received any injury reports. It said the items being recalled locally could be fixed and customers would be given free repair and replacement kits.

This is part of a wider US-led recall of more than 10 million Fisher-Price products following reports of injuries.

Some 72,763 highchairs were recalled in the UK alone following 14 reports of problems in the US. About 165,090 products with inflatable balls were also recalled in the UK following 50 reports of valves coming off the products, the BBC reported.

Tradeways can be contacted on 2143 4797 or via tradeway@maltanet.net.
