Rebels in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi yesterday celebrated the West's military intervention in the country and prepared to resume their offensive to the west, after having retreated last week under heavy fire from the Gaddafi forces.

Ground attacks were made by French aircraft, with the biggest target having been a 40-vehicle convoy which included several tank-carrying trailers, which were destroyed..
