Reading sent Liverpool crashing out of the FA Cup when they came from behind for a 2-1 win after extra time in their third-round replay at Anfield last night.

The Championship (second division) strugglers were losing 1-0 with 30 seconds remaining before equalising with a penalty from Gylfi Sigurdsson four minutes into stoppage time.

Shane Long glanced home Reading's winner in the 10th minute of extra-time to give them a stunning victory and a fourth-round tie at Burnley.

Liverpool had taken the lead in stoppage time at the end of the first half when Ryan Bertrand deflected a Steven Gerrard cross into his own net for the home side to open the score.

In the night's other replay, Danish striker Peter Lovenk-rands scored a hat-trick to help Newcastle United beat Plymouth Argyle 3-0 at St James' Park.

Lovenkrands scored for Newcastle after 10, 40 and 72 minutes to set up a fourth-round tie with West Bromwich Albion.
