The second phase of the Hilti Tezor literacy programme being coordinated by the Foundation for Educational Services and sponsored by the HSBC Cares for Children Fund, will begin at the Book Fair today at 10 a.m.

Schoolchildren will be able to meet the first group of Hilti Tezor Reading Ambassadors: President Emeritus Censu Tabone, popular author Trevor Zahra and singers Ira Losco, Mary Spiteri and Claudette Pace.

Schoolchildren and their parents are welcome to go and hear these personalities read from three new original children's books in Maltese, for a period of 20 minutes each. The three new books were published recently by FES, following the conclusion of a literary competition held with the support of the HSBC Cares For Children Fund and Klabb Kotba Maltin.

In the weeks and months ahead, this group of reading ambassadors will be visiting various schools throughout Malta to lead reading sessions and to encourage both schoolchildren and their parents to devote more time to reading. This work will complement the efforts already being made by teachers and HSBC staff volunteers in a number of after-school reading classes as part of the Hilti Tezor campaign to combat illiteracy.
