Eight people have already contacted Sarah Borg, the woman who has posted an advert online asking for a kidney for the father of her 10-year-old son, in return for €5,000.

Replying to comments posted under stories on this site, Ms Borg thanked readers for their support.

She said in one of the replies:

"I am lost for words and I am never usually lost for words... Us Maltese have big hearts and we have noble people and not only Maltese I even had a lovely foreign woman doctor who called me ready to donate unfortunately blood types are not compatible." The blood type needed is 'O' positive.

Sarah Borg's former boyfriend, Chris Bartolo, suffered a double kidney failure just over a year ago. Since then the 30-year-old had to undergo several operations and, on Monday, he underwent his seventh surgery.

Desperate to find a way to help him, Ms Borg decided to post an advert on Malta Park. She also posted it on the Facebook page of the Church in Malta.

Mr Bartolo was diagnosed with renal failure in January last year, a month after his 23-year-old sister died from a brain tumour. He initially dismissed his symptoms, regular vomiting, as stress.

Ms Borg noted in her posts that she does not want to buy a kidney.

"I noted that I would cover expenses such as loss of work and recovery. That would be the least I could do.
Thanks once again keep us all in your prayers."

She said that she plans to organise a charitable fund which would hand out donor cards, to encourage people to help others in need.
