Former Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia has written to the prime minister, saying he is medically indisposed and cannot attend this evening's parliamentary sitting which will discuss the circumstances which led to his removal.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tabled the letter in parliament this evening and said Dr Mallia had insisted that he did not see the government statement (about warning shots) before it was published on November 19 after his driver was involved in a shooting incident. He also reiterated that he was not part of any cover-up.

Dr Mallia also said he would remain loyal to the Labour movement and the government and would continue to serve in Parliament.
