Matthea Mercieca, B. Com Marketing and Management, third year.

Being a third year student, my expectations for Freshers Week were solely based on previous experience as a University student. Having previously formed part of a student organisation, I appreciate the work that is put in to organising the week.

It seems the general organisation has improved over the years; it definitely kept me looking forward to starting University.

I noted less promotional material and freebies being handed out by the commercial stands; this year’s Freshers Week gave the impression that there is some sort of ‘marketing slump’.

Philip Leone-Ganado, M.A. Diplomatic Studies.

It was great to see so much activity on campus. Everyone really went all out this year to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere to start off the new scholastic year, and the results were fantastic. But as with previous years, it was a pity to see corporations and commercial organisations once again being given pride of place over the student organisations that, at the end of the day, make up the heart of University.

Lara-Jo Portelli, B. Com, first year.

As a fresher, I expected to find entertainment, informative material, music and freebies. After a week at the University quadrangle I cannot say I was disappointed; I met several friendly characters whom I found very helpful.

However, I found all the promotion at stands a bit annoying; I often found myself being pestered by people at stands I had already visited.

Moreover, I must say I was a bit disappointed that all the stands closed early – I would have loved to see some more evening events included in the week’s calendar.
