Nationalist MP Charlo Bonnici said today rampant trapping for golden plovers was taking place at night.

Speaking during the Budget debate in Parliament, he called for illegal hunting and trapping to be curbed and said law-abiding trappers had informed him there was rampant trapping at night for golden plovers, which were then being sold online.

This was the reason why this bird was barely being seen during the day.

He pointed out that illegally caught birds were not listed in carnet de chasse.
