Champions Hibernians moved two points clear at the top of the women's league after they recorded their biggest win in an 11-a-side championship, thrashing Rabat Ajax 13-0 at the Pace Grasso Stadium on Sunday.

The Paolites were simply streets ahead of the struggling Rabat side who could have slumped to a heavier defeat had Hibernians not hit the woodwork eight times.

Dorianne Theuma (25th, 30th, 53rd) and Dionne Tonna (12th, 33rd, 47th) hit a hat-trick each with the other goals coming from Joanne Vella (16th, 32nd), Sarah Caruana (11th), Patricia Borg (22nd), Corissa Vella (39th), Tessie Agius (41st) and Ottilia Borg (62nd).

No goals were recorded in the other match played on Sunday as title challengers Birkirkara were held to 0-0 draw by third-placed Melita.

The Stripes held most of the possession but they were denied by a stubborn Melita side who opted to base their game on counter-attacks.

In the final minute, the Amateurs were reduced to ten players when Nadia Gauci was sent off for retaliation. However, Melita almost stole the points in the last action of the match when a Maria Azzopardi free-kick forced Birkirkara's Dimech to produce a fine save.

Leading scorers: D. Theuma (Hibs) 11 goals; S. Caruana, J. Vella (Hibs) 7 goals; E. Agliano (Birkirkara) 5 goals.

Sunday's fixtures at Pace Grasso: 9 a.m. Mosta vs Raiders; 10.30 a.m. Hibernians vs Melita.
