The upcoming performance of Ramón Oller’s Carmen, to be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre tomorrow Friday, will represent a very particular interpretation of the legendary figure of Carmen, a female icon created by Merimée in his novella and which Bizet paid tribute to in his opera.

Carmen mixes contemporary dance and flamenco with ease. While remaking Carmen to fit into the context of the 21st century, Oller avoids stale myths without forgetting the story. Most of the music used in this Ballet is taken from the opera by Bizet.

The performance is being supported by theVodafone Malta Foundation.

The Vodafone Malta Foundation supports events that enhance the lives of the Maltese community. Its involvement with Carmen is intended to promote culture and make it accessible to as many persons as possible. All proceeds from the performance will be donated to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

The performance marks the end of the six-month Presidency of the European Union Council by Spain.
