The first phase of the Powerade Malta Fit For Future Cup 2008, sponsored by General Soft Drinks Co. Ltd, was organised during April and May whereas the second phase was held between October and December.

This initiative is developed with schools in mind and aimed to involve students from different age groups and a variety of schools, both at a sport and educational level.

The first programme consisted of a sports championship and a sport-educational competition that contribute equally to determining the overall champion schools. Activities included handball, basketball, football, swimming and athletics.

The second programme had more of an academic basis as each participating school set out on an educational project related to promoting an active lifestyle.

The Powerade Cup came to an end during the final presentation which was held on December 15, during which the educational projects were presented by the students to the specially-appointed judging committee. The topics were chosen by the schools themselves and each school gave a brief overview of its project together with an explanation on how they felt the project helped them realise the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

The judging committee comprised of Joe Cassar, director of the Malta Olympic Committee, Stephen Grima, education officer from the Education Department, Michael Aquilina, director of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports of the University of Malta, Kenneth Vella, member of the Malta Sports Council and Kevin Azzopardi, The Times' sports journalist.

The schools were given financial assistance which totalled up to €5,000 in sports equipment and literature.
