Tarxien Rainbows ended 2015 on a sound note after seeing off 10-man Naxxar 4-0 at the Hibs Stadium.

The Rainbows could have taken the lead on 10 minutes when Alves slid the ball into the path of Luke Montebello who saw his low shot pushed away by Luke Pecorella.

Pecorella was again alert on 24 minutes to block Anderson’s angled drive. The best chance of the half came Naxxar’s way after 38 minutes when they were awarded a free-kick and Toure’s inswinger forced goalkeeper Andrea Cassar to dive full stretch to palm the ball away.

Toure protested heavily as he deemed that Cassar had touched the ball beyond the goalline but the referee was unmoved.

Eight minutes into the second half Ayrton Azzopardi sped clear of his marker but firm drive was punched away by Pecorella.

Naxxar suffered a blow on 63 minutes when Pereira was harshly shown a second yellow card for a foul on Alves and was subsequently dismissed.

From the resultant free-kick, Bruno met Azzopardi’s delivery with ball slipping past Pecorella.

Tarxien doubled their lead on 70 minutes when Alves whizzed his way past two defenders before leaving the ball to Azzopardi who hit a fine curling drive that flew into the top corner of the net.

The Rainbows struck again on 76 minutes when in a swift break Montebello served Alves who had little difficulty in stabbing the ball home.

Tarxien completed the rout nine minutes from time when Omerou fed Montebello who beat Pecorella with a low drive.

After the final whistle Rajovic was shown a red card for dissent.
