The organisers of tonight’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in Valletta have urged people to attend despite a poor weather forecast.

"People should wear warm clothes and bring an umbrella. If it rains we’ll stop for a little bit and then party all night,” spokesman Owen Spiteri said.

V18 Chairman Jason Micallef said the undisputed spectacle of the night would be a 3D mapping projection on the palace façade. The projection is set to wow the audience at 6.30 pm, 7.30pm and 8.30 pm and again at the stroke of midnight with a digital countdown.

There will be entertainment on the main stage at St George's Square throughout the evening.

Big screens are being set up in other parts of the capital so that people can follow  without cramming St George’s Square.

Mr Micallef said the evening would also include a few special surprisse.
