Quick thinking by a passer-by prevented a small fire in a bar from developing into a blaze this morning.

The incident happened at Marsascala at about 8 a.m.. The passer-by noticed smoke coming from a closed bar on the seafront and immediately alerted the fire brigade.

A fire engine arrived within a short time and firemen, wearing breathing apparatus, were able to enter the premises to extinguish the fire.
