The Queen will visit the former site of the Twin Towers during her tour of North America next month.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the 84-year-old monarch would pay her respects at the site on July 6, the same day she is due to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited the site in 2005 and Prince Harry was there last year.

The Queen's US visit will follow a week-long tour of Canada in honour of the Canadian Navy's centenary and to mark Canada Day.

She is being accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.
