Qormi scored a goal in each half to take the honours in a tense derby against Hamrun Spartans this afternoon and go three points clear at the top of the Premier League standings.

Playing infront of packed stands at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, the Yellow-Blacks took the spoils after playing a perfect tactical game which saw them soak the Spartans’ pressure and hit them with quick counterbreaks on Camilo and Alfred Effiong.

Massimo Grima put Qormi ahead nine minutes from half-time when he pounced on some hesitancy in the Hamrun defence to fire the ball home.

The Spartans launched a stirring fightback after the interval but it was Qormi who sealed the points with a second goal on 64 minutes when Camilo unleashed a spectacular strike that flew into the top corner of the net.
