Qormi have all but guaranteed themselves of playing in the Premier League for another season after they scored a goal in each half to see off Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 at the National Stadium this afternoon.

The Yellow-Blacks enjoyed a fast start and inside the opening five minutes they were already a goal ahead.

Kenneth Scicluna picked Jorginho on the edge of the area and the Brazilians striker unleashed a powerful drive that gave no chance to Tarxien goalkeeper Nicky Vella. After that early breakthrough Qormi continued to create scoring chances but could not find a second goal that could settle their nerves.

Instead it was Tarxien who could have equalised on 72 minutes when Daniel Mariano Bueno saw his dipping shot hit the bar with Qormi goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia beaten.

Qormi finally grabbed the second goal a minute from time when substitute Luke Sciberras was upended in the area by Everton and from the resultant penalty Triston Caruana drilled the ball home.

There was still time for Tarxien to pull a goal back in stoppage time when Ricardo's firm header was only partially blocked by Matthew Farrugia and from the rebound Karl Pulo stabbed the ball home.

Qormi striker Jorginho was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
