Qormi returned to winning ways when they eased past 10-man Tarxien Rainbows at the National Stadium.

Gabriel made his first appearance for Qormi since agreeing to a contract last week and the former Valletta striker played a big part in his team’s victory.

In fact Qormi took the lead on 35 minutes when Gabriel was upended in the area by Josef Mifsud and from the resultant penalty Roderick Bajada blasted the ball past Tarxien Rainbows goalkeeper Nicky Vella.

Tarxien’s hopes were dealt a ‘killer’ blow onthree minutes into the second half when Leighton Grech put Alfred Effiong clean through but the Nigerian was brought down by Vella with the referee pointing the spot for the second time. Vella was shown a straight red card with his place in goal taken by Anthony Curmi who replaced Sadowski.

From the resultant penalty Effiong blasted the ball past Curmi.

Qormi applied the coup de grace 14 minutes from time when in a swift break Gabriel sped past Josef Mifsud before slidding the ball past Tarxien goalkeeper Curmi.
