Qormi made sure they finish runners-up in the final league standings after beating new champions Hotsticks in the last match of the season.

After a cautious start by both teams, Qormi started applying more pressure on the Hotsticks’ defence, on one occasion also being denied by the post.

The Hotsticks keeper effected two pointblank saves but then John Williams was on hand to pick up a rebound and push home, putting Qormi 1-0 ahead.

Steve Tanti was also on the mark on 28 minutes as Qormi went in for the break enjoying a double lead.

Two minutes into the second half Kyle Micallef hit a low shot into the net to increase Qormi’s lead.

Hotsticks pressed hard to claw back into the game but missed five penalty corner opportunities to end on a downward after having shown the best qualities and play throughout the campaign.

White Hart chalked up their second win of the season after beating Young Stars 2-1 at the Corradino Complex last weekend.

On 13 minutes White Hart were awarded a penalty stroke which Luke Brincat buried, stroking a low shot into the corner of the net from the spot.

Both teams increased their efforts but it was White Hart who went further ahead when David Agius met a Glen Bonello cross and flicked home from a very narrow angle.

Young Stars pulled one back through Jamie Mifsud seconds before the half-time whistle blew.

The second half proved to be interesting with both teams creating chances to score more goals even though tempers frayed as the clock ran down and the two sides were reduced to ten men.
