Qormi - 1, Sliema - 4

Qormi’s relegation worries deepened on Saturday when the Yellow Blacks suffered a 4-1 defeat to Sliema Wanderers at the Hibs Stadium.

It was Sliema who took the lead on 18 minutes when Miguel Ciantar pounced on a poor clearance by Gabriel Buttigieg and the Sliema forward dashed in the area and lashed the ball past Qormi goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

Qormi soon hit back and managed to draw level on 33 minutes when Christos Karamanolis was first to Joseph Farrugia’s free-kick and his dipping header flew past Sliema keeper Victor Szentpeteri.

Sliema, however, remained the brighter side and they deservedly regained their lead on 73 minutes when Etienne Barbara crossed the ball into the path of Obinna Obiefule who quickly released Chakib Lachkham who fired the ball past Matthew Farrugia.

Qormi were stunned and they conceded again two minutes later when Barbara’s throughball put Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza clean through and the Sliema forward dribbled Matthew Farrugia before depositing the ball into an empty net.

The Wanderers sealed the points a minute from time when Obiefule raced into the Qormi area and beat Matthew Farrugia with a low shot.

Etienne Barbara was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
