A fund-raising marathon for Puttinu Cares raised just under €640,000 by the time it was concluded last night amid celebrations at the Marsa sports grounds.

The marathon, based around non-stop football but also including a variety show and games, started on Friday, with the kick-off made by President George Abela.

Puttinu Cares helps the relatives of young patients needing medical treatment in London by providing accommodation. It recently bought a property in Sutton which it will convert into a number of apartments. The NGO hopes to raise €900,000 by the end of this year.
