The three-day Puttinu football and volleyball marathon raised a record €1,351,921 by the time it ended late yesterday.

The final figure was announced amidst cheering by an army of volunteers and several hundred visitors at the Marsa grounds.

The popular marathon was inaugurated by the President on Friday.

The funds will be used by the Puttinu Foundation to pay for and maintain apartments it has set up in Sutton, London, to help patients needing treatment in the UK, and their relatives.
