The Puttinu Cares 60-hour sports marathon was in its half-way stage at the Marsa grounds this afternoon, with fund-raising gathering momentum.

The campaign is hoping to raise €1.4 million, which will help it to pay for 12 apartments it has set up in Sutton, London, to house Maltese patients needing hospital treatment in the UK.

Puttinu Cares is currently marking its 10th anniversary.

The marathon was kicked off by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca yesterday and continues till tomorrow evening. Just over €90,000 had been collected by early this afternoon with a number of companies and clubs holding collections and calling at the Marsa grounds to make their donations.

Football and volleyball events are complemented by entertainment for all the family, including a children's play area and a main stage where various tribute bands are participating. An auction of various items, including sports memorabilia, will be held.
