It's all about family and music for George Curmi, Il-Puse'. Ramona Depares interviews the man who made classical cool on today's issue of The TV Guide.
When I get there at four in the afternoon, Pjazza Reġina is a hive of frenzied activity. It's Wednesday, which means that musician George Curmi, perhaps better known as Il-Puse', is busy setting up for the evening's show and he's not letting the afternoon heat slow him down.
I have been a fan of this man's amazing skills with the violin since I was a child, growing up in Valletta. Musically speaking, the Curmi family was (or rather, is) a legend for locals. And for someone who loved music from a very young age, like I did, they occupied a very firm spot in the firmament of childhood celebrity names. George's father Joe was a very well-respected musician, highly sought-after both by the Manoel Theatre and at the best Strait Street dance-halls. In fact, it is from him that Il-Puse' inherits his nickname.
