St Joan Antide School, Gudja, in co-operation with Heritage Malta and its education division, recently organised a first-time visit to the National Museum of Fine Arts in South Street, Valletta, to introduce Year 2 pupils to art and heritage through fun and play.

After a short tour of the museum a look at the Lazzaro Pisani exhibition the children took part in a treasure hunt and crossword puzzle, and spent time drawing those paintings that particularly attracted their attention.

School assistant head Marion Cutajar explained how the activity helped children develop the skill of careful observation and an elementary art vocabulary, and the school hoped that such visits would lead to a life-long love of art and museums.
