Sliema Wanderers yesterday launched a new publication about the club's success in its 100-year history. Titled Seklu Ta' Kisbiet (A century of achievements) the book, presented in magazine form, has been compiled and edited by Albert Callus.

The idea to publish a book about the Wanderers' rich history was put forward by Robert Arrigo, the club's former president, and work on it began in July 2007.

Addressing a news conference at TeamSport yesterday, Callus spoke not only about the many football honours won by Sliema since 1908 but also on the club's ability to recover from difficult times.

The publication is divided into five sections, the first being an introduction by Steve Abela, the current president of Sliema Wanderers.

The next section provides a detailed account of the club's achievements throughout the years with Callus pointing to the 1930's as one of Sliema's most glorious eras, with the Blues winning seven league titles in 11 years.

The third section is a tribute to those who served as presidents of Sliema Wanderers throughout the years.

Seklu Ta' Kisbiet also has a whole section dedicated to Tony Nicholl, widely considered as the greatest player ever to wear the Sliema shirt.

The publication concludes with a list of all the winners of the main domestic honours in the history of Maltese football.

Priced at €10, the book will go on sale during tomorrow's Premier League match against Valletta at the National Stadium.

Meanwhile, club president Abela also said yesterday that the new Tignè complex, which will house Sliema's training pitch, is expected to be completed by October next year. Abela also thanked the Malta FA for assisting the club's efforts to install a top-class artificial pitch.
