Inspectors clamped down on bars in Marsascala for the second time in as many weeks on Friday night, removing tables and chairs set up illegally on pavements.
A total of 17 tables, 56 chairs, five umbrellas and other items including amusement machines were removed from five bars.
Tables and chairs placed beyond the established parameters on pavements had been confiscated and the bar owners had their encroachment permits withdrawn. Applying for a new permit will cost them an administrative fee of €1,000.
The Lands Department conducted the operation in Marsascala after similar action in other villages.
A statement by the Lands Secretariat said it was time to give public property back to the people.
