Workers from the Government Property Division this morning started digging up and removing a secondary road in Ghajnsielem which government workers in 2006 widened and extended onto public land without the required permits.

Informed sources said the action was taken after MEPA had served the Commissioner of Land with an enforcement notice. It transpired that the commissioner himself had not authorised the extension of the road.

The works in 2006 were carried out by the Projects and Development Department of the Ministry for Gozo, which will now be billed by the division for the restoration of the area.
