Updated 1.50pm with Azzopardi reaction

Parliament's Public Accounts Committee has been requested to probe two controversial land contracts carried out by the former Nationalist administration.

Labour's representatives on the committee, Robert Abela, Clayton Bartolo, Julia Farrugia Portelli and Silvio Schembri said the deals showed a lack of governance and transparency by the former PN administration, especially former Minister Jason Azzopardi.

The case in question revolves around two reports carried out by the Auditor General's Office on properties at il-Fekruna and 83, Triq Spinola in St Julian's.

"One has to recall that these are not the only two cases involving Jason Azzopardi, the minister who has been condemned most by the Auditor General," a PL statement said.

In a reaction, Dr Azzopardi welcomed the fact that the reports will be probed by the parliamentary committee.

"The two reports confirm that contrary to Labour's lies, there was never any political interference and there never was any contact between politicians and land owners in question," he said in a statement.

The report also states that the expropriation of property at Fekruna bay was in the interest of the public and also praised the setting up of a committee to ensure accountability and transparency.
