The owners of a property filed a judicial protest over what they claim to be inordinately high utility bills for a house that has been vacant for years.

One of the owners of the house in Sliema, Mark Anthony Debono, said last February he had asked the Water Services Corporation and ARMS Ltd to suspend the services to the residence. However, he was informed they could only be terminated once he paid an existing bill. A meter reader was sent on April 28 and it was verified there was no usage of the utilities. The bills, however, kept arriving, forcing him to send two legal letters that were then ignored, Mr Debono said.

Lawyer Richard Galea Debono signed the protest.
