Romina Azzopardi, 22 of Cospicua admitted in court today to having lived off the earnings of the prostitution of her 20-year-old girlfriend Yanica Aquilina. She also admitted relapsing and committing a crime during the operative period of a probation.

Defence lawyer Roberto Montalto said that in this case there was no coercion at all.

In this case, he said, his client was just living with her friend and it was Yanica who had opted for prostitution to help Romina who had a drug problem.

He argued that the court had two options, either imprisonment or a treatment order.

Inspector Graziella Muscat, for the prosecution, said Romina had had her drug problem for a long time and she wished she could kick the habit once and for all.

The case was put off for judgement.
