A 36-year-old man was charged on Sunday with forcing a 25-year-old woman into prostitution and holding her against her will in a brothel last Friday.

Carmel Muscat, of Rabat, pleaded not guilty to the charges as well as to living off the earnings of prostitution and threatening the woman.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna remanded him in custody.

Police Inspector Jesmond Micallef prosecuted and lawyer Franco Debono appeared for the accused.
