A 50-year-old woman was jailed for six months and fined €1,000 for threatening and insulting a woman police sergeant by claiming the officer had once tried to touch her.

Josephine Grixti was also found guilty of loitering for prostitution purposes and disobeying police.

Ms Grixti had originally been charged together with her boyfriend, Clayton Fenech, 26. They pleaded not guilty to assaulting and robbing their neighbour in Testaferrata Street, Ta’ Xbiex, last July.

The neighbour, Robert Thomas Owen, had said he was on his way home when Ms Grixti offered him sex.

When he refused she asked him for cash; when he refused that, Mr Fenech turned up and threatened him. He then filed a police report.

On September 10, police spotted Ms Grixti in Marsa. As Sergeant Donna Frendo was arresting her in connection with the July incident, Ms Grixti threatened to strip her of her uniform and claimed she had tried to touch her in the past.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke could not find Mr Fenech and Ms Grixti guilty of the July incident since evidence showed it did not happen in Testaferrata Street, as laid down in the charge sheet, but in Sir Ugo Mifsud Street, Gżira.

Mr Fenech was cleared of all charges, but Ms Grixti was found guilty of loitering, threatening and insulting the officer, disobeying police and breaching the peace.
