It is interesting and good to note that, as declared by the chairman of the Housing Authority (February 22), the current main source of supply of land for housing purposes is the former Church property. This shows that one of the main objectives of the 1991 agreement, namely that of making Church property available for social needs, is being achieved.

The Church has now passed practically all the information, documents etc. on the property transferred to the State under the 1991 agreement to the Joint Office. The administration of this latter office does not fall under the Church authorities as is being implied. In fact, the Church has no control on the method, selection process or indeed the speed and efficiency with which the Joint Office transfers property to the Housing Authority.

The Church cannot get involved in the administration or disposal of such property by the State so long as this is done within the terms of article 2 of the 1991 agreement, which regulates the use and transfer of the property by the state.

The Archbishop's Curia is not aware of, and certainly cannot be held responsible for, the case mentioned by the chairman of the Housing Authority where a large piece of land is allegedly being sold to a private tenant. We shall, however, be making appropriate enquiries to obtain more details on the case mentioned by the chairman of the Housing Authority to ensure that the use and eventual disposal of the property is in accordance with the terms of the 1991 agreement.
