The issue raised by Alexander Libreri (Dangerous And Inconvenient, June 14) regarding repair of pavements in Ġużé Borg Street, Ta' Żwejt, San Ġwann was a bit unfair on our council. Mr Libreri wrote about some dangerous machinery parked close to the pavement surrounded with plastic bollards, as should it be, to indicate works in progress. I must correct that the machinery in question belongs to our contractor and was not from the PWD as Mr Libreri wrote.

These works started in the middle of last week and took about three days to finish after a complaint filed by one of the residents living in that area. The old pavement was reinstated after a site inspection by our architect confirming the justification of this complaint.

Last week this contractor had some urgent works which needed more attention in another locality so he had to stop temporarily for three days.

When I got Mr Libreri's complaint via e-mail on Thursday, June 12, I personally took immediate action and called our contractor to park his mini excavator and the small bobcat in Triq Sir Theuma Castelletti.

I answered Mr Libreri on Friday and promised to resolve this problem Saturday morning, which was done at about 10 a.m.

Honestly, I expected Mr Libreri to give us our time to take the necessary action before writing quarter pages with pictures leaving out the safety plastic bollards mentioned above, indicating these works. I even expected him to thank the council for removing dangerous pavements in our streets which can be of potential danger to everybody.
