Nature Trust (Malta) has praised the police and the environment directorate of the Planning Authority for the prompt action taken to clear the dump at the ancient oak forest at Wardija.

Nature Trust said, however, that it believed that the authorities should not lower their guard for future infringements, especially since the trees were on private land.

The trust also noted the clean-up of the Wied Ghomor valley bed by the Works Division, the Ministry of Resources and the St Julian`s Scouts Group. The valley was peppered with building debris.

Nature Trust said that although such initiatives were highly laudable, it believed that the developers of buildings in the area and the quarry operators should have been made to clean up the debris.
